The 1,000-year-old cathedral

It was Saturday today and all my clothes were dirty, so I traveled to a nearby town, Wurzburg, to a laundromat; there are so few of them in Germany.  One choice you have here is the "cook wash," where your clothes are boiled at 212 degrees F on the first wash cycle.  That really gets the dirt out!

When I was finished, I stashed my backpack in a locker at the train station and went to Bamberg.

Bamberg is a well-preserved medieval city, that has a cathedral that was dedicated in May of 1012.  That was 1,000 years ago!  It was partially rebuilt in the 1200s due to a fire.  We have no concept of anything that old in the U.S.  It is a pretty amazing place.  The bells were chiming while I was there.  (I videoed it, but this website won't let me load any more videos, for some reason)!

Also, in Bamberg is the town hall, built in the middle of a river and a huge monastery, where a wedding had just taken place today.  An amazing chunk of history!

On TV tonight:   more soccer ... Spain against France, announced in German!
